8-Year-Old Madison Gives Enthusiastic, Inspiring Speech About Books

"What would the world be like without books? They fuel our mind like cars and gas. The cars can't go without gas, our brains can't go without books. The world needs books! We need books."

Resource Lists Part 2
Create a list. Look at the bottom of the list. Check ‘Show notes’
and you have a bibliography with the book summary. This one is sorted by Title
then Author. There are other sort options.
This list can promote new books! Put the books on display with a few copies of
the lists you’ve created for teachers or students to use. A new book promotion for teachers with a morning snack will get them into the library. Let me know when and I'll be there too. Books and bagels..mmmm.

Friday Fun Clever Promotional Ideas
This QR code was displayed throughout the building during open house at Athena (not on a cubicle wall at BOCES like this picture). When scanned, the Destiny catalog opened. Parents explored resources from the library!
Here's the doorway at Hill Elementary Library. Mini posters were made of the books teachers read for pleasure because "We are a Community of Readers!"

Friday Fun: Blind Date with a Book
Librarian Janet Clarke-Hazlett had books wrapped in plain
brown paper and tagged with words. Students were encouraged to have a “blind
date with a book”. After all, you can’t judge a book by its cover! Janet said
the promotion had books being checked out in record numbers. She will be rewarded
with a big tote bag from Baker + Taylor.
If you have a cool project to share - this is the place!

Destiny Homepage
Wouldn’t it be nice if your Destiny Home Page was a true 24/7 landing page
for your students with all your library resources beautifully displayed? Well,
now it can be. If you have a district library page or other site where you
maintain all your library resources, we will show you how to embed that site so
Destiny becomes a comprehensive virtual library that will meet the information
needs of today’s students. Don’t have an existing site? We can offer ways to
create a dynamic web page using Web 2.0 tools that will allow you to showcase
your library program and its resources.

Library Data Wall
I was in a building last week and saw an interesting Library
Data Center display. The librarian printed reports for Top Homerooms, Top Patrons,
New Books, Database Use and ‘What Students and Teachers are Reading’.
Here’s the ‘rest of the story’…since displaying the information about the Top Homerooms, the teachers with lower circulation numbers have made a point of having their students go to the library to check out more books!
Most of these reports can be created and printed from circulation. I’d be happy to help you create and print any of them.
