Student Poetry for a Librarian
An 8th grader wrote this poem for an anti-bullying project. The student brought it to Lisa Osur, Holley Librarian. The author wishes to remain anonymous but asked the poem
to be shared.
Here you are,
Surrounded by books,
That make my day.
I read these stories,
Get lost in their pages,
Find joy in the simplest of things,
My message here to you is…
“Books are my family,
My friends,
And I disappear inside them,
To escape the people who insisted,
I disappear for real.”
Books saved me from bullies,
And you gave me those books,
That saved me,
That saved my life,
Thank you.
I only ask one thing of you,
Pass this poem on,
Give it to your family,
Your friends,
Anyone who will listen.
Post in on a website,
Something,
Just as long as the message is heard.
Books saved my life from bullying.
Give a book,
Save a life.

Fun Friday - secret libraries in NYC
While wandering around Neatorama, nestled between a post of
people who look like Michael Ciera and one featuring a T-shirt for The Hunger Games District 3 Electricians, I found this gem http://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/secret-libraries-of-new-york-city by Allison Meier. Secret libraries in NYC!
The Hispanic Society of America, General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York, and The Center for Fiction are pictured below. Talk about special collections! Your next trip to the Big Apple could include a visit to a secret library.

How to create a ‘static’ link for a Resource List or Visual Search button
How to create a ‘static’ link for a Resource List or Visual
Search
button
1. Do not log in to Destiny
2. Use the traditional (classic) catalog
3. Select a public resource list or visual search
4. Copy the URL in the web address bar
Use the copied url. Add ‘& and your catalog site
number’ at the end.
What’s a site umber? The number indicates the order of installation
during Destiny installation. The first library installed in your district has the site number 100, the second has number 101. You can figure it out by testing the url with 100, then 101, etc. The ones
that take you to the district’s catalog are NOT your site number. You can reply to this email and I’ll send
you the site number. You can also email lat@monroe2boces.org for the information.
This is a url to a
Resource List “Common Core 4th and 5th Grade” at Craig
Hill Elementary.
Notice the &site=106
at the end. 106 is Craig Hill's site number.
Here’s link to the
SLS eBook Publisher Visual search from Churchville Elementary.
Notice the &site=104
at the end. Churchville Elementary site number is 104.
This a link to
websites provided by Destiny about inventors from Kendall Elementary.
Here’s the link
attached to a picture. Kids can click on the picture to see the list of
websites in Destiny that were selected for their use.
Holley, Kendall and Wheatland have 2 sites – it is easy for them to figure out their site number. Remember, you can reply to this email and I’ll send you the site number. You can also email lat@monroe2boces.org for the information.

Friday Fun
Since spring is here and we're showing a little more skin...Mentalfloss posted a list of 24 Awesome Librarian Tattoos.
I've considered getting a small text tattoo. 'So it goes' from Slaughterhouse Five seems to be popular. Perhaps 'We're all mad here' from Alice in Wonderland? Do you have some library ink?
